As we enter the third nine week grading period our students and staff are busy preparing for another round of State Standardized Testing. The students and staff are preparing diligently for these assessments and have done so all year. We continue to institute an atmosphere of individualized instruction and we are seeing tremendous growth for all students at all grade levels. Our students continue to embrace the challenges that they face in the classroom and are excited to have options on the type of learning style that best suits them. Our students have been working in a blended learning environment with both teacher led and teacher facilitated learning. We are working with our children in deep rooted research and project based learning activities. These allow our children to experience real world skills and learn how to work in teams to accomplish a common goal. With the Spring fast approaching I would like to remind all seniors and their parents to schedule some time with Mr. Napper and Mr. Sparling to go over transcripts, to make sure that all requirements have been met for graduation on Sunday May 21, 2017. I also urge all seniors to begin the process of applying for scholarships and to also fill out the FAFSA, this is for Federal financial aid, for those students planning on furthering their education.
On the business side of the district, the Ridgedale Local Board of Education, Treasurer and Administration have continued to be fiscally responsible we again had a clean audit with no findings for Fiscal Year 2016. Mrs. Stephanie Schee has had a clean audit every year that she has been with the district and continues to be a great steward of the public money. We will again be very busy this coming summer updating and making needed repairs to the facilities. Some of the projects that the Board of Education is considering/will be doing are as follows. We will finish the roof membrane project on the Jr/Sr High School building. We will soon be soliciting bids for the purpose of re-siding the modular classrooms and installing composite decking leading into those classrooms. We have scheduled several company's to come in and do an energy audit of our buildings and we are looking into the possibility of replacing our interior fluorescent lighting with new LED fixtures to provide additional energy savings for the district. We will also be looking at a new window project in the elementary that would be phased in over the course of the next several years. The last facility project would be to continue to demolish and replace the black top in several of the high traffic areas in the parking lot. We continue to work with OHM Advisors to help us to help us prioritize our capital improvement plan for the next several years, which helps in the budgeting for major facility maintenance and repair issues. These repairs and improvements will be paid for with FY 17 carry over money, and we will continue to address our needs while continuing to “live” within our means. One future project that will need addressed very soon is the Track and Field facility, which will be a major undertaking for the board and will come at a very large cost.
I am very excited to continue into the Spring and see how our students do on the State Assessments. I am sure that all of the hard work by our students and staff will have prepared them for continued success. As always feel free to stop in the buildings at anytime, however for security reasons, please call the office that you wish to visit prior to your arrival. If you have any comments you would like to share, questions that you may have or any general concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, either by phone:740-382-6065 ext. 101 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be happy to assist you.
